African Renaissance Monument--Dakar, Senegal

Completed in 2010, the African Renaissance Monument designed by Senegalese architect Pierre Goudiaby to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of Senegal's independence from France.

The 49m high bronze statue sits on top of a 100m high hill. It is the tallest statue in Africa. The monument was constructed by a North Korean construction firm, which caused much controversy in Senegal.
