This monument was a submittal for a competition representing the deportation of Jewish prisoners during WWII. The infinity pit, placed within the river, literally represents the idea of deportation and absence. Architects realized they could not compete with the European Central Bank's new HQ nearby, and thus decided to create a void (a literal absence) to counteract the enormity of bank. Tens of thousands of Jews were never seen again, just as the water that falls endless into the pit.
