Doris Salcedo - Memorials in Museums
Each stack is separate piece of art, both named Untitled by Doris Salcedo. They reference the accounts of forty Columbian women who witnessed their husbands' murders because of their participation in organized labor struggles. She is quite aware of her use of memory in her work and the futility of art in making a change. Another piece of hers dealing with memory is Atrabiliarios, the shoes of people who have disappeared without a trace placed in a box, obscured by cow bladder which is stitched over the opening with surgical thread. She has a multitude of other art work that memorializes something or another, check it out.
